Kathryn Netherwood

Coordinator | DipT (SACE) BEd (WACE)) ProfCertPostiveEducation (MelbUni) MasterEducationalLeadership (UWA) MACEL

Kathryn is the Coordinator at Lance Holt School, a position she has held since 2000. She is passionate about building a values-based school culture and maintaining a strong community with committed and innovative teachers, involved parents and enthusiastic students.

A constant presence in the school, Kathryn knows every child, their parents and extended families. She leads a committed team of teachers, many of whom are long term members of staff. Her approach to running a busy community school is one of gentle, considered diplomacy.

Kathryn has a specialist interest in positive education, an approach that fosters wellbeing and can explicitly teach skills and mindsets that promote positive emotions, positive relationships, and resilience. Kathryn led the school in the Australian Government initiative, KidsMatter, which focuses on promoting student wellbeing. She was thrilled when Lance Holt School was the first school in Australia to receive national recognition for implementing the KidsMatter program. Kathryn hopes to continue to develop the school culture through the lens of positive education, to grow thriving students with a passion for learning.

“I really enjoy getting to know the students and their families, and love being part of their learning journey. The early and primary years of school are foundational in establishing students’ love of learning, their creative and critical thinking skills, and their sense of self, as well as their place within the community.”
